Let’s Talk Travel Insurance

Something you have to buy, but hope you never have to use!

In the post-COVID world travel insurance is just as important a part of your holiday as your flights and accommodation, but because it doesn’t get the same amount of attention, travellers often make assumptions about what cover they have, and what it can do.

Standing in line waiting for a flight that’s just been cancelled isn’t the time to find out.

As with many things, those tiny words at the bottom of the document – the dreaded “terms & conditions” – make all the difference, yet nobody – except for us of course – takes the time to read them. That’s why we have dedicated this edition of our E-News to “busting” a couple of myths on the subject so you’re less likely to be caught short on your next trip.

Myth #1

“I’m Covered with My Credit Card”

Many travellers assume that the complimentary cover offered by most credit cards is all they’ll need, but don’t be fooled; there’s no such thing as a free dinner!

  • Paying for your trip with a credit card to activate an insurance policy can incur surcharges of over $200; that’s not what we call “complimentary”.
  • Then there’s the dreaded “excess” charge, these are often exorbitant and make any claim – for even the smallest item – very expensive.
  • Credit Card insurance often has to be explicitly activated, otherwise the cover is restricted; and this differs from provider to provider.
  • Premium cards do not guarantee any premium cover.

Myth #2

“It’s Just About the Price Vs the Payout”

Travel insurance extends far beyond simple cover, and the Dollar value you have attributed to each circumstance; if you fall and break your ankle whilst walking the Great Wall your first thought won’t be “Oh good, I have the first $15,000 of my medical fees covered!” – you’ll want to pick up a phone, dial a number, and know that you’ll be taken care of, 24/7… THAT is where specialist cover really comes in to its own.

The Moral Of This Story?

You Cant Put A Price On Peace Of Mind

Travel agents like ourselves offer peace of mind on two fronts; firstly we’re equipped with ALL the information so we can help you find the most suitable insurance cover for your trip. We read the Ts&Cs so you don’t get caught out.

We’re then also on hand after the trip to prepare and lodge any claims. Spending three weeks chasing call centre agents for your money is one great way to ruin what would otherwise have been a wonderful holiday. Wouldn’t you rather just come in, sign a form, have a coffee, and let us take care of the rest?
